PHOTONORTH:IDENTITY

The following work is a body of work I created for the PhotoNorth 'identity' Brief. The work is based around identity in how you dress- more specifically androgynous fashion. For many LGBTQ+ People, their clothing, and the history of being part of the community is part of their identity. For this project I looked at the semiotics of flowers and fashion in relation to LGBTQ+ fashion; taking inspiration from violets and lavender and their significance in LGBTQ+ history and combining this with a more androgynous fashion styling. For the project, I chose for my meanings to be subtle and beautiful- reminiscent of the way violets were given historically; not an obvious statement at first glance- but their meaning apparent when you look deeper.
